Wednesdays@2: The Christmas Story in Art

December 14, 2016
2:00 PM

Episodes connected with the Christmas story such as the Annunciation to the Virgin and Adoration of the Christ Child have been a favorite subject of artists from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. In this holiday-themed lecture, David Stark, chief curator, will look at varied approaches to the Christmas narrative, including examples from the permanent collection of CMA and from other American and European museums. Paintings, prints, and the art of the crèche will all be discussed; each demonstrating a striking range of styles that have inspired and sometimes startled viewers of the past and still resonate with modern audiences. Cost of this program is $20 for nonmembers (includes general admission) and $5 for members. Register here.
