One of the giants of Modern art, Pablo Picasso revolutionized painting by developing Cubism, a style that introduced a radically new way of representing space and time. Instead of painting the illusion of reality, Picasso dissected objects and space, presenting them as fragmented and superimposed planes and volumes. He often presented objects from multiple vantage points simultaneously, as if the viewer were walking around the objects to experience how they looked from various angles. The hallmarks of this approach are evident in Still Life with Compote and Glass, which is one of the artist's most highly regarded Cubist works.
