LINES/EDGES: FRANK STELLA ON PAPER

November 17, 2017 – April 29, 2018

Lines/Edges focuses on Stella’s four decade-long adventure in printmaking and draws entirely from the Pizzuti’s collection of works on paper. While not a survey in the formal sense, Lines/Edges allows for a fascinating overview, touching on key moments in his career with themes that go from literature to music, travel, art history, auto-racing, and cigar smoking. The works range from lithographic adaptations of the Black Paintings (1958-59) to magnificent technical experimentations from the 1980s and 90s and culminates with Moby Dick Deckle Edges, nine large-scale prints that make up part of the artist’s massive project inspired by Herman Melville’s epic novel.

An incredible look into Frank Stella’s printmaking process and relationship with master printer Ken Tyler.
