The World of Resplendent Wooden Synagogues

October 13, 2013 at 4:00 PM

In collaboration with The Ohio State University’s Melton Center for Jewish Studies, Rick and Laura Brown of Handshouse studio present a film documenting the Gwozdziec project to rebuild components of an exquisite seventeeth-century Polish wooden synagogue. The Browns and Thomas C. Hubka, professor of architecture at the University of Wisconsin and an authority on wooden synagogues, discuss this fascinating project that has involved volunteers from around the world. The Gwozdziec Synagogue was a remarkable wooden synagogue built in the Polish Lithuanian Empire in 1731
that was destroyed during World War II and is being rebuilt using photographic and historical records. All are welcome, no registration requested.
