What A Diff’rence a Day Makes: Celebrating Women Composers in Jazz

February 26, 2023
2:00–4:00 PM

Location: CMA

As an early start to Women's History Month, join us to hear and learn more about women composers in jazz from its beginning through today. The Tony Hagood Quartet welcomes Liz Woolley, a vocalist, pianist, guitarist, and composer. Expect to hear great songs by Kay Swift, Ella Fitzgerald, Sisters of Happy Hollow, Bessie Smith, Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Lil Hardin Armstrong, Alice Coltrance and many more. While women such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald were famous for their jazz singing, women have achieved much less recognition for their contributions as composers. We wanted to use this opportunity to share a tiny fraction of the many great compositions women have created in jazz.

Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-members in advance, and $30 for everyone at the door.
