BAM UnderCurrent

May 15, 2025
5:00–9:00 PM

Event located at the corner of Gay and High Street.

BAM Thursdays (Bar, Art, and Music) are back—and we’re kicking things off with a special Downtown edition!

We’re bringing the energy of BAM to the heart of the city as part of the UnderCurrent event series. Join us for a one-night-only experience under Janet Echelman’s sky-high sculpture at the corner of Gay and High Street on Thursday, May 15 from 5:00–9:00 PM. Enjoy live music, creative art experiences, and more—all in the open air of downtown Columbus. Admission is free! Street parking is available in the area as well as nearby garages.

In the event of inclement weather, BAM UnderCurrent will take place the day after on Friday, May 16.

Then, starting May 29, head to the Columbus Museum of Art every Thursday through September 25. Experience live music, great art, delicious bites, creative experiences, and fresh libations in the museum’s garden space—with extended hours and free general admission from 5:00–10:00 PM.

UnderCurrent was developed by Downtown Columbus, Inc. to expand the diversity of events offered downtown, bringing together community members and enhancing the district’s cultural vibrancy beneath the uniting emblem of Current.

Esté Hupp is originally from South Africa. Hupp is a free-spirited artist now living in Columbus, Ohio with her husband and two children. Her creative journey began early—at age 12, she won an international sculpture competition, with her work permanently installed in Imari, Japan. Over the years, Esté’s art has evolved through sketching her travels across Africa, exploring watercolor and coffee painting, and illustrating books for publishers such as Fair Winds Press and Gather Round Homeschool. A graduate of the Milan Art Institute, she blends classical oil techniques with her love for the dreamy, ethereal nature of watercolor. Deeply rooted in her spiritual journey, Esté’s intuitive process and expressive mark-making reflect her faith, inviting viewers into realms of wonder, light, and hope. She currently creates from her cozy home studio, guided by divine inspiration and the beauty of nature.
