Opera: “Later the Same Evening”

August 10, 12 & 13

Later the Same Evening an opera inspired by Edward Hopper
Music by John Musto and Libretto by Mark Campbell

This performance is a unique opportunity to experience the art of Edward Hopper. John Musto and Mark Campbell have woven a compelling tale, interweaving the lives of characters directly inspired by five of Edward Hopper’s most iconic paintings.* The opera imagines the lives of the figures in these paintings and connects them on one evening in New York City in 1932 from private rooms to Broadway.

Later the Same Evening is directed by local Opera Singer and Voice Professor Peggy Kohler and performed by Otterbein University students. Unique features of this production include dual pianos and reproductions of the paintings that inspired the characters. The opera is performed in English and runs approximately 70-minutes without an intermission.

*The paintings that inspired this opera are: Room in New York, Hotel Window, Hotel Room, Two on the Aisle, and Automat
