Armando Román is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in the Midwest. He received his BFA in Studio Arts from Denison University and his MFA in Visual Arts from The Ohio State University. His drawings traverse themes of religion, homosexuality, community, and the metaphysical self. The Mexican landscape, both cultural and literal, is of particular interest to him. He creates work to better understand his own relationship with Mexico, which is simultaneously familiar and foreign to him. Familiar, in that countless stories have been retold to him of this place, where his mother and father were born. Foreign, in that he has no permanent relationship with it. Hybridization, juxtaposition, and integration are used in his practice as tools of resistance. Román currently works at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Check out his website.

DJ Aloha (Colombia, 198somethin’) does not scowl and looks mean while she DJs. She does not pretend to know everything but you will enjoy her uplifting sets to have the best time on the dance floor. She is grateful to be doing music for a living and she knows that the reason people go to parties is to shake their “money-maker” and have fun. She has also been developing cultural projects as a CEO with SoundClash Entertainment for the last 5 years. Another of her facets is related to self-producing and Radio Broadcasting weekly all-vinyl shows on local community radio stations. Thrilled to be spinning a Melting Pot set on June 22 for BAM Thursdays. Check out her Instagram.

Annie Russell is a multimedia artist whose work revolves around themes of interconnectedness and energy. She first began drawing miniature portraits during the early days of the pandemic, seeking joyful and meaningful connection during a time of collective grief. She brings an intentional presence and lightness to her illustrative work, rendering her subjects in dreamlike color, surrounded by intuitive imaginal forms. Her mini portraits are a practice of presence and vulnerability between herself and her subject. Each one is made in gratitude for this brief, beautiful energetic exchange. Check out her Instagram.
