My CMA Studio
Explore experiences for all ages

My CMA Studio provides an opportunity to experiment, play, imagine, take risks and solve problems while exploring creativity and thinking like an artist. In-person programs are designed for intergenerational hands-on experiences within our studio spaces, located within the Center for Creativity. Virtual prompts are provided for at home use with materials easily found in your home studio or kitchen.


Share your creativity using our prompts, our hashtag #myCMAstudio and allow our workspace to be your own Studio when you visit the Columbus Museum of Art.


We are excited to offer My CMA Studio Sensory Hours for Open Studio, Spring, Summer, and Winter Art Breaks!
Visitors are invited to enjoy the first hour of select programs as a sensory-friendly space.

Sensory offerings include:
• Overhead lights off with dimming lamps
• Closed closet
• Limited seating
• Sound-canceling headphones
• Weighted blankets and fidget items

Sensory hour from 10:00–11:00 AM

Open Studio at CMA engages creative thinking through material exploration and monthly BIG IDEA’s, with local teaching artists joining us once a month. Open Studio experiences are included with admission to CMA, materials and supplies provided.
 
Monthly Studio Themes

April Theme: Small Worlds
Ever wondered what secrets a tiny world might hold? Get ready to think like an artist and create your very own miniature universe with the Studio supplies.

May Theme: Dreamscapes
Wonder what it would be like to journey a world that feels like a dream? The Studio journeys through mysterious and strange worlds that belong in dreams through art and creation.

June–July Theme: Groovy Summer
Vibes are sunny, colorful, and full of flower power. Stay cool and get creative in the studio with a 70s inspired color palette, peace signs and smiley faces.

COSI’s BIG Science Celebration

May 4, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM

We invite you to join us at COSI’s BIG Science Celebration. Explore creativity, community, play, and wonder through our hands-on activity.

This exciting, free experience is located on the Scioto Peninsula, surrounding COSI, and takes place on the last day of the COSI Science Festival.

Birthday Parties at CMA

For ages 4–11
Birthday party dates are available starting fall 2024 — check back soon! Please contact 614.629.5942 with any questions.

The Center for Creativity is the perfect place for your child’s next birthday party! We offer unique, playful, hands-on parties for children ages 4 to 11. Each party includes free general admission to the Museum, decorations, interactive games, and open studio experiences. Guests leave with a creativity bag and are invited to explore the galleries before they depart for the day.

Birthday parties at CMA are $300 for members and $375 for nonmembers.

Home School Workshops

Home School Workshops will return in the fall of 2024

Homeschool students in grades 1–8 can explore and create in this 1-hour experience. Each month features a new topic inspired by our studio prompts.

Registration includes a 60-minute Studio Thinking Workshop, followed by a 30-minute Open Studio experience. Caregivers are encouraged to drop-off their student in the Studio and then connect with other caregivers in the adjacent studio space or enjoy downtime in the galleries or café.

Studio Thinking Workshops

Age: K-12th
Length: 50 min.
Cost per student: $6

Studio Thinking Workshops develop innovative problem-solving skills. Learning department staff prompt students with surprising creativity challenges, using unexpected materials and techniques. Each 50-minute workshop can be tailored to specific themes. Pair a Studio Thinking Workshop with any of our 50-minute tours for an additional $6 per student.

Studio at Home Web Series

Discover fun and engaging art-making activities for all ages to enjoy without leaving home.

This 3-part Studio at Home Web Series was created in collaboration with artists Richard “Duarte” Brown and recorded by Donte Woods-Spikes. We hope you have a great time learning, watching, and making art with your family alongside Duarte!

Each episode comes with a full set of written instructions and suggested supplies. Activities include creating Button People, Mixed Media Clay Figures, and a Paper Bag Journal.
